First, let’s get the credentials out of the way. I received my massage training from Nashua Community College in 2007. I went back to fulfill the requirements of an Associates in Science with a major in Holistic Massage Therapy in 2014.
My love for massage goes back to childhood. My grandfather used to massage my big little feet, and read the lines in the palm of my hands. My mother also has massage in her blood. I remember when I couldn’t sleep, she would gently massage my back in bed, putting me into a relaxed state. She too would rub my feet and try to cure my ills, as she delved into the study of Reflexology. Following in their footsteps, I began massaging friends and family in my teens.
My approach has always been to keep an open heart, mind, and palms. Everyone is unique, with their own muscular nuances. It’s my job to have a universal touch and figure out where those pesky nuances lie to help adjust the physical state of being. I do this by listening to one’s concerns and requests and applying my knowledge of the muscular system and anything related to the massage. Next, I feel for areas of subtleness and rigidness. Starting off with light to moderate pressure, this permits my hands to melt into the deeper layers of tissue and granting the muscles to speak into my open palms. And then finally, a little intuition.
